Page no longer existsI have been an assiduous visitor to Richard's Brown award winning home page, although not a cichlid oriented site, it does always figures me what an aquarist page I think should be; it is beautiful and informative, tells me about his hobby as well as about his fish. I learned about his fish keeping philosophy and thought me that simple, but well carried techniques are good enough to be most successful with fish. No sophisticated equipment, no money expense. All I had to do was watch those great photographs of Richard's long kept pets to find out the love and care that he puts on them, as Richard's fish can easily go well over 10+ years of healthy stay in his tanks. Richard's page is no terribly elaborated, no fancy graphics, no striking colors, but a wealth of information. The introductory page takes you by a link to Richard's tanks, where he gives you details about his four aquariums and his pond, each tank lists the species he keeps, with links to individual pages for most of Richard's fish species. Once you get to those pages, you get astonished by the excellent appearance of Richard's fish. An excellent photograph of the specie in question opens the page, then follows the scientific name of the fish and its meaning, it's provenance, an after that a detailed account on its maintenance. It is hard to say which of Richard's fish impressed me the most. And although an all time cichlid lover, I should confess I felt in love with his Eel-tail Catfish (Neosiluris glencoensis) as well as his New Guinea Red Rainbowfishes (Glossolepis incisus), I got specially impressed by a picture of one of his males that is maybe one of the highlights of the page. But that is not all in Richard's page, from the home page you get links to some of his short but very informative articles, which resume Richards successful fish keeping philosophy. "healthy aquarium", "Fish foods", "Keeping it natural", "Scientific names can be fun" are some of the titles that you can find there. A short list of nice aquarium sites links close his page. Richard's page was awarded by Aquascape Magazine (now defunct publication) as the best aquarist page for the month of June-1996, a prize in my opinion well deserved. I highly advice to spend a leisure hour or two giving his page a well deserved look. © Copyright 1996, Juan Miguel Artigas Azas |
