New Xenotilapia spp. discovered

A place to discuss the wonderful assemblage of lake Tanganyika cichlids from the tribe Ectodini, like Callochromis, Xenotilapia, Enantiopus, Cyathopharynx and Ophthalmotilapia!

Hello Thomas (I heard you calling me... :D ) and everybody.

It's a very interesting topic. For me it's clearly a new sp. , but it seems hard to draw conclusions simply on these photos.

Hi Estelle, very nice seeing you here :D

Yes, it´s very interesting, and even though we can´t conclude anything from photos, it´s still fun to speculate :)

Also we have a little more than just photos, as Evert who has taken the photos, of course have seen it at first hand. His first impression was that it was Xenotilapia spp., but not one he could recognize as a known species

What can not be seen very clearly on the photos, is that it should have a really beautiful shimmering light-blue dorsal fin

All the best,

Thomas
